The Whitest Boy Alive
Rules

Asound / Bubbles
Release Date: March 31, 2009

Fans of WBA's first album, Dreams, will be happy to know that Rules consists of the same down and mid-tempo hooks. This German dance and pop indie outfit seem to be following rules of their own with the same minimalist attention to bass, guitar, drum and synths, whilst sprinkled in between are the same crisp haunting vocals from lead singer, Erlend Øye. Rules never gets any faster in tempo than the closer "Island," which is akin to explosive opener  "Burning" on Dreams. Two-note toe-thumper "Timebomb" also comes close.  There is no strong contender on Rules for a good workout opener, however there are several mid-tempo songs that serve as ideal for winding down or midway through workouts. "High on Heels" is funky and rhytmical with it's fluttering high hat and shuffling synth hooks, while "Island" is more hypnotic in nature akin to a locomotive speeding by you with its terse heavy synth line and steady snare pairing -- as soon as it whizzes by leaving its indelible mark with vocalist Øye whispering "Live on the island" in the distance.

If this is your first encounter with WBA then you will be in for a treat. The group makes good on their sophomore effort doing what they do best. Critics may discount this record for WBA not trying to raise the bar with Rules. But I would counter that if you have a good thing going, why ruin it?

Good Mid-tempo Workout Tracks:
"1517"
"High On Heels" - on ISR's Finger Freeze Mix
"Island"
"Timebomb"
"Keep A Secret"
"Courage"
"Promise Less or Do More"

Soup Is Good For You
I think I found you on itunes about a year ago and you have seriously changed my workout life. :)

I'm finding that by listening to this podcast that I'm also discovering new artists that I want to check out, so this can also broaden your musical horizons.

It's just fun, upbeat music that makes you want to dance around your house in your underwear. And it's not techno, so that's good.

These songs are awesome for working out...the only podcast I listen to!

I'm really enjoying working out to this music! Catchy music to distract me from the pain."
